The grave of 18-year-old Misbah, who allegedly died after being subjected to violence by her husband in Surjani Town's Saif-ul-Mari Goth, was exhumed on Saturday following a court order, as part of ongoing legal proceedings in the case.
Exhumation Procedure and Forensic Sampling
The exhumation was carried out in New Karachi's Sector 6 graveyard under the supervision of a judicial magistrate (District West). A medical board led by a medical legal officer, along with Police Surgeon Dr Sumiya Syed and her team, collected samples from the body for forensic analysis.
Police Surgeon Dr Sumiya said samples had been collected and sent for forensic examination, adding that the cause of death would be determined after the report. She said initial medico-legal findings had indicated certain signs, but details could not be disclosed at this stage.
Allegations of Threats and Initial Police Inaction
According to the victim's family lawyer, Tahir Janjua Advocate, the postmortem was not conducted earlier due to fear and threats allegedly issued by the accused, identified as Shehryar Butt. He claimed the suspect had warned the family of severe consequences if they reported the matter.
The victim's brother, Usman, said the family initially faced difficulties in getting police cooperation, but following media coverage, police action improved significantly.
