The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Legislative Committee on Thursday reviewed the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Service Tribunal Bill, 2026, and discussed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965, as part of broader efforts to modernize the province's legal and administrative framework. The committee, chaired by Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam, convened at the Law Department to examine key legislative proposals aimed at improving governance, public administration, and regulatory mechanisms.
Deliberations on Service Tribunal Bill
During the meeting, officials from the Law Department, Human Resource Management Department, Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Advocate General's Office, Board of Revenue, and other relevant institutions participated in detailed discussions. The proposed Service Tribunal Bill was reviewed from legal, administrative, and constitutional perspectives, with recommendations from various departments taken into account. The legislation aims to establish a comprehensive framework for the timely and effective resolution of service-related matters involving government employees.
Motor Vehicles Ordinance Amendments
The committee also deliberated on proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965. The review covered aspects such as traffic management, vehicle registration, taxation, and other legal reforms intended to align the existing law with contemporary administrative and public requirements. Members directed the relevant departments to refine the proposed amendments further, taking into consideration practical implementation issues and public convenience.
Aftab Alam stated that the government remains committed to strengthening the province's legal and administrative framework through effective legislation and institutional reforms. He emphasized the importance of broad-based consultation during the lawmaking process to ensure that legislation reflects public interest, good governance, and administrative efficiency.
The committee decided that recommendations and observations submitted by participants would be incorporated into both draft laws before their presentation at a future meeting for final review and consideration.
