FAISALABAD: Two alleged robbers were killed and four others were injured in six separate police encounters across Faisalabad, police officials confirmed on Tuesday. The bodies of the deceased and the injured suspects have been shifted to local hospitals, and legal formalities have been initiated.
The first encounter took place under the jurisdiction of the Airport Police Station. Sub-Inspector Adnan Mughal, in-charge of the Sabzi Mandi police post, was returning with suspect Naveed after recovering a snatched motorcycle linked to a robbery case. Near the Abbaspur Road drain, four armed accomplices allegedly intercepted the police party, freed the suspect, and fled the scene.
Upon receiving information, Airport Police Station SHO Sub-Inspector Saqib Riaz and other officers reached the location and pursued the fleeing suspects. According to police, when the suspects were surrounded and asked to surrender, they opened fire on the police party. During the ensuing exchange of fire, Naveed was struck by bullets allegedly fired by his own accomplices. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police revealed that Naveed had a criminal record involving more than 32 cases. He was being transported after recovery proceedings when his accomplices attempted to rescue him. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
In total, six separate police encounters resulted in two fatalities and four injuries. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the other deceased and injured individuals.
