PAF Modernizes to Become Next-Generation Air Force: Chief

PAF Pursues Comprehensive Modernization to Transition into Next-Generation Air Force

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu has announced that the Pakistan Air Force is actively pursuing a comprehensive program of modernization and indigenization to transform into a Next Generation Air Force. The Air Chief made these remarks while addressing a ceremony commemorating the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.

Recalibrated Operational Doctrine and Advanced Capabilities

The Air Chief detailed that the PAF has fundamentally recalibrated its Operational Doctrine while rapidly inducting advanced combat and support capabilities. This strategic shift includes the integration of indigenously developed Unmanned Systems, sophisticated Electronic Warfare platforms, and cutting-edge Space and Cyber assets. According to Sidhu, these developments have established a unique home-grown multi-domain Kill Chain, significantly enhancing Pakistan's defensive and offensive capabilities.

Commemorating Operation Swift Retort and Re-establishing Deterrence

Reflecting on the events of seven years ago, the Air Chief stated that an aggressor had miscalculated Pakistan's resolve and capability by challenging its sovereignty under the cover of darkness. He emphasized that the PAF's measured and precise broad daylight response successfully re-established credible deterrence against a numerically superior adversary. Sidhu reaffirmed that Pakistan remains a responsible nation that desires peace with honour, but will respond decisively to any threats.

Recent Multi-Domain Operations and Significant Achievements

Referring to the Marka-e-Haq operations in May 2025, the Air Chief highlighted that when Pakistan's sovereignty was again challenged, the PAF conducted full-spectrum multi-domain operations for the first time. These operations were precisely executed and decisively overwhelmed the adversary. Sidhu detailed several key achievements during these engagements:

  • The downing of advanced enemy platforms including Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, and MiG-29 aircraft
  • The neutralization of multiple Unmanned Aerial Systems
  • Successful strikes deep inside hostile territory
  • The neutralization of S-400 air defence systems along with their Command and Control Centre

Commitment to National Sovereignty and Future Preparedness

Reaffirming the PAF's unwavering commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu stated that the Air Force will continue to remain a symbol of national pride. He emphasized that the PAF ensures credible deterrence while maintaining a vigilant yet responsible defence posture. The modernization efforts are designed to keep Pakistan's air defence capabilities at the forefront of technological advancement, prepared to meet any future challenges to the nation's security and territorial integrity.
