Ex-Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi Dies in Motorway Crash

Former senator Taj Muhammad Afridi was killed in a motorway accident on Friday, according to rescue officials and police. The former senator, who belonged to Khyber district, was traveling from Peshawar to Islamabad with his driver.

“Afridi’s car met with an accident near Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, resulting in his death on the spot, while his driver sustained minor injuries,” said Saqib Shah, spokesperson for Rescue 1122 Swabi.

The deceased was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC), while the injured driver was also admitted for treatment. According to Rescue 1122 officials, the body and the injured driver were transported by the motorway police, from whom they obtained details of the incident.

According to initial information, the accident occurred due to a mechanical fault in the vehicle. Taj Muhammad Afridi served as a member of the Senate from March 2015 to March 2021. He also served as the provincial caretaker minister for relief and rehabilitation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed deep sorrow over the death of former senator Taj Afridi in the tragic motorway accident. In his condolence message, the governor said he was deeply saddened by the loss of the former senator and prayed that Allah Almighty grant him a high place in Paradise. He also prayed for patience and strength for the bereaved family.
