Sindh Minister Orders Foolproof Security for Muharram

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed authorities to immediately prepare a comprehensive contingency and communication plan for security arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram. He instructed all districts, ranges, and police zones to review existing security plans and enhance their effectiveness.

Security Measures

Lanjar emphasized that no compromise would be made on the security of Majalis and processions, stating that protecting citizens' lives and property remains the Sindh Government's top priority. He ordered extraordinary security measures at sensitive locations, Imambargahs, and along procession routes.

Monitoring and Coordination

The minister directed strict monitoring of miscreants, proscribed organizations, and suspicious individuals. He called for rigorous implementation of legal restrictions on persons listed under the Fourth Schedule and continuous surveillance of their activities. Lanjar stressed the importance of regular coordination with district- and police station-level peace committees to promote harmony among all schools of thought.

Authorities have been tasked with conducting comprehensive surveys, security audits, and threat assessments of Majalis venues and procession routes. The Anti-Riot Force, reserve police, and other personnel must remain on high alert. A detailed review of weapons, ammunition, anti-riot kits, and essential equipment is also ordered.

Operational Readiness

Lanjar emphasized keeping modern control rooms and communication systems fully operational to ensure prompt response through effective coordination. He directed indiscriminate action against religious hatred, provocative material, wall chalking, and distribution of illegal pamphlets. Strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act and the prescribed code of conduct was ordered.

A comprehensive traffic management plan will be prepared to ensure smooth traffic flow during Muharram-ul-Haram. The minister underscored strengthening coordination and intelligence-sharing among all law enforcement agencies to counter potential threats timely.

The Sindh Government will utilize all available resources for peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 2026, and any negligence or lapse in security will not be tolerated.
