District Police Officer (DPO) Vehari Tassawar Iqbal has directed the police force to strengthen security and law enforcement measures across the district in preparation for Muharram-ul-Haram. On Thursday, the police leadership initiated meetings with organizers of mourning processions and license holders to ensure peace and sectarian harmony as part of strict security plans for the holy month.
Crackdown on Crime and Anti-Social Activities
Under DPO Iqbal's directives, Vehari police launched a district-wide crackdown against crime and anti-social elements. The operations resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals involved in an alleged dance party. Additionally, authorities recovered 440 liters of liquor and an operational still from a bootlegger. A five-year absconder wanted in a fraud case was also apprehended. Police seized an illegal 30-bore pistol and arrested four gamblers along with cash and valuables.
Section 144 Imposed Across Punjab
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed across Punjab, including Vehari, from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. The ban prohibits the display of weapons, hate speech, and provocative activities during this period. DPO Tassawar Iqbal stated that indiscriminate action against criminals, illegal weapon holders, drug dealers, and other anti-social elements would continue unabated. Citizens and religious organizers have assured full cooperation to maintain peace during Muharram.
