In a major blow to international drug trafficking networks, the Pakistan Coast Guards have intercepted an enormous consignment of narcotics during targeted operations in the coastal region of Gwadar.
Massive Drug Haul Uncovered in Intelligence-Based Raids
The Pakistan Coast Guards conducted a series of intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operations in the Gwadar region, specifically targeting the areas of Hallery and Peshogan. According to an official statement released by the PCG, their teams successfully recovered a staggering quantity of high-quality narcotics that authorities believe were destined for international markets via sea routes.
During the operation in the Hallery area of Gwadar, guards discovered and seized 1,400 kilograms of hashish, 105 kilograms of crystal meth (commonly known as ice), 8 kilograms of heroin, and 6.5 kilograms of opium. The drugs had been cleverly concealed in bushes in an attempt to avoid detection.
Additional Interception at Coastal Checkpoint
In a separate but simultaneous operation at Pasoo Gap in Peshogan, the Coast Guards demonstrated their vigilance during routine snap-checking procedures along the coastal route. This operation led to the interception of another 476 kilograms of premium-quality hashish, further disrupting the smuggling network's operations.
The combined narcotics seizure represents one of the most significant drug busts in the region's recent history. Authorities have estimated the total value of the confiscated drugs at approximately $134.43 million in the international market, highlighting the economic scale of the smuggling operation that has been thwarted.
Strengthening National Security and Economy
The Pakistan Coast Guards have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to combating narcotics trafficking in all its forms. In their statement, they emphasized that such operations are crucial for protecting and strengthening Pakistan's national economy from the damaging effects of illegal drug trade.
These successful operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-based approaches in the ongoing battle against drug smuggling. The Coast Guards have pledged to continue their vigorous efforts to prevent the use of Pakistan's coastal routes for illegal activities, ensuring enhanced security along the country's maritime borders.
The significant drug seizure in Gwadar represents a major achievement in Pakistan's broader strategy to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking networks that attempt to exploit the country's strategic coastal location.
