Grand Peace Jirga Held in Dera Ismail Khan

A significant gathering aimed at fostering regional stability was convened in Dera Ismail Khan, marking a unified stand against militancy and for communal peace.

Jirga Pledges Support for Security Forces

The grand peace jirga took place at the Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines. It was led by Station Commander Brigadier Muhammad Abu Bakar and District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada. The event saw participation from a wide cross-section of society, including tribal elders, political figures, and religious scholars from throughout the district.

In a solemn show of respect, attendees laid floral wreaths at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the fallen. The assembly collectively reaffirmed its commitment to provide full cooperation to the Pakistan Army and Dera Police in their mission to establish durable peace. Participants also contributed practical suggestions focused on enhancing security and promoting harmony among communities.

Military and Police Leadership Address Threats

Speaking to the jirga, Brigadier Muhammad Abu Bakar emphasized the peaceful essence of Islam. He stated that the religion offers complete guidance for a prosperous life and that no human system can supersede divine law. “Those who spread discord on earth are the most dangerous,” he remarked, urging citizens to adhere to the teachings of Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He gave assurances that the Pakistan Army and all security institutions remain fully dedicated to protecting the nation.

DPO Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada addressed the recent security challenges directly. He highlighted the attack on police personnel assigned to protect schools and colleges in the Paniala area. The DPO pointed out that the immediate and effective response against the assailants proved the high morale of the police force remains unbroken.

“Our officers and jawans are making supreme sacrifices for public safety. A timeless tale of bravery is being written,” Sahibzada said. However, he stressed that eradicating terrorism is impossible without public support. He called on community leaders to take a firm stance against terrorists and their enablers by actively utilizing local peace committees and reconciliation bodies.

A Collective Path Forward

The jirga concluded with a clear consensus on the need for collective action. The leadership underscored that enduring peace can only be achieved through a partnership between security forces and the citizenry. The event served as a powerful demonstration of local resolve to counter extremist elements and work towards a secure and harmonious future for Dera Ismail Khan district.
