In a significant security move, all entry points to Islamabad's Red Zone, except for authorized government vehicles, have been completely closed to all traffic, according to a traffic advisory issued on Friday. Residents are strongly advised to avoid traveling towards the Red Zone to prevent any disruptions or inconveniences during this period of heightened alert.

High-Security Alert for Anticipated US-Iran Peace Talks
Islamabad is currently under a high-security alert as it prepares to host a potential second round of peace talks between the United States and Iran, known as the "Islamabad Talks." The first round, held from April 11 to 12, 2026, concluded without a final agreement, and the upcoming talks, expected around April 20–21, 2026, aim to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East following a conflict in February 2026.
The discussions are focused on key issues such as maintaining the ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz for commercial vessels, and negotiating sanctions relief. Although significant gaps remain between the parties, both sides have expressed a commitment to keeping diplomatic channels open to pursue peaceful resolutions.
Unprecedented Security Deployment in the Capital
To ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the talks, over 10,000 security personnel will be deployed across Islamabad. This force includes approximately 6,000 Islamabad police officers, 900 Federal Constabulary members, and 3,000 Punjab Constabulary personnel, with additional support from the Pakistan Army and Rangers.
The Red Zone is under strict control, with army personnel guarding sensitive installations to prevent any security breaches. This comprehensive security framework underscores the importance of the diplomatic efforts and the city's readiness to facilitate high-level international negotiations.
