PFA Seals Murree Hotel, Fines 3 Outlets in Winter Crackdown
PFA seals hotel, fines outlets in Murree hygiene crackdown

The first winter showers in Rawalpindi and Murree brought a chill to the air and a surge of tourists to the popular hill station. Responding to the increased footfall, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched a decisive crackdown on Wednesday, targeting food establishments operating in unhygienic conditions.

Surprise Inspections on Mall Road

Led by Director General Asim Javed himself, enforcement teams conducted unannounced checks at food points along Murree's bustling Mall Road. The operation focused on the main commercial area, where a high concentration of tourists seek meals and snacks. A total of 20 food outlets were scrutinized for their adherence to official food safety and hygiene standards.

Hotel Sealed, Multiple Outlets Penalized

The crackdown resulted in immediate action against several violators. According to a PFA spokesman, a well-known hotel was sealed on the spot due to poor sanitation and serious breaches of food safety laws. Furthermore, three other food points faced financial penalties, receiving fines totaling Rs 80,000.

In addition to the sealing and fines, the authority issued official notices to 16 other food outlets. These notices directed the owners to improve their hygiene standards promptly and without any delay.

Zero Tolerance During Peak Season

Speaking during the operation, DG Asim Javed emphasized that ensuring safe, quality, and hygienic food for Murree's tourists is the authority's top priority. He stated clearly that no negligence in this critical matter would be tolerated, especially during the peak tourist season when the population swells.

Javed affirmed that action against those flouting food safety regulations would continue indiscriminately to safeguard public health. He also urged both tourists and local residents to play their part by reporting any complaints about food quality directly to the PFA's helpline at 1223, with an assurance that all reports would be met with prompt action.
