KINGSTON - Shamar Joseph delivered a match-winning all-round performance as West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third and final T20 International at Sabina Park on Sunday, clinching the three-match series 2-1.
Joseph's Bowling Heroics
Joseph spearheaded the West Indies bowling attack with a superb five-wicket haul, returning figures of 5/33 in four overs to restrict Sri Lanka to 169 all out in exactly 20 overs. Dunith Wellalage top-scored for the visitors with 43 off 28 balls, while Kamil Mishara contributed 28. Opener Pathum Nissanka added 26, and Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis chipped in with 21 and 20 runs respectively. Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder and Roston Chase claimed a wicket each.
West Indies Chase
In reply, West Indies chased down the target in 19.4 overs despite losing five wickets. Sherfane Rutherford anchored the innings with a composed 54 off 40 deliveries, striking three fours and four sixes. Captain Rovman Powell scored 33, while Shimron Hetmyer added a brisk 32. Holder then finished the chase in style with an unbeaten 21 off just five balls, smashing three sixes. For Sri Lanka, Hasaranga was the most successful bowler with 2-17.
