The Pakistani government has announced the establishment of a new technology hub in Islamabad, projected to boost the country's digital economy by 30% over the next five years.
Project Details and Investment
The hub, named 'Digital City Islamabad', will span 500 acres and is expected to attract over $2 billion in foreign investment. According to Minister of IT and Telecommunication Syed Amin Ul Haque, the project will create 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Construction is set to begin in early 2027, with the first phase completed by 2029.
Impact on Digital Economy
The hub aims to house 500 tech companies, including startups and multinational corporations. It will feature co-working spaces, research labs, and training centers. The government projects that the hub will contribute $5 billion annually to Pakistan's GDP.
"This hub will transform Pakistan into a regional tech leader," said Haque.
Infrastructure and Facilities
The hub will include a 5G network, solar power plants, and high-speed internet connectivity. It will also have residential areas, schools, and hospitals to support a self-sustaining community.
The project is part of the government's Digital Pakistan initiative, which aims to increase IT exports to $10 billion by 2030.
