Uncovering Iran-Linked Cells
The king's remarks follow Bahraini authorities' disclosure that they have uncovered and dismantled several cells accused of connections to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Those detained are alleged to have monitored sensitive locations within the kingdom and collected intelligence on strategic sites, posing a direct threat to state security.
In a related development, Bahrain arrested three suspects in recent weeks for forming a cell linked to Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah. Authorities claim this group communicated with operatives abroad, attempting to facilitate activities aimed at threatening state security, intimidating residents, and destabilizing public order.
Alleged Activities and Training
Officials revealed that the suspects underwent weapons training during visits to Lebanon after establishing contact with Hezbollah members. They are also accused of transferring images and information related to Iranian strikes on Bahrain, as well as raising funds under the guise of charitable activities, which were allegedly redirected to support Hezbollah-linked operations. These actions are said to be part of preparations for potential terrorist assignments inside Bahrain.
Espionage and Recruitment Cases
Separately, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of five individuals, with a sixth suspect believed to have fled the country. They face accusations of espionage and passing sensitive information to the IRGC via intermediaries in Iran, along with recruiting others for planned attacks targeting state institutions and infrastructure. Officials assert that these alleged plots aimed to undermine national sovereignty, destabilize economic entities, and spread fear among the population.
