Pakistan and Iran Agree to Broaden Security and Counterterrorism Cooperation
Pakistan and Iran have agreed to expand their collaboration in security, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and immigration management. This decision came during detailed talks between Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Iranian counterpart, Eskandar Momeni, in Islamabad. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and the evolving regional situation following a recent peace agreement.
Review of Bilateral Ties and Regional Developments
The two ministers reviewed the state of Pakistan-Iran relations and discussed the latest developments in the region after the peace accord. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the reduction in regional tensions and voiced hope that the agreement would produce far-reaching positive consequences for peace and stability.
Momeni thanked Pakistan for the warm welcome extended to the Iranian president and his delegation during their recent visit to the country. Naqvi congratulated the Iranian interior minister on the joint declaration issued in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, stating that the agreement would not have been possible without the sincere efforts of the Iranian government and its leadership.
Pakistan's Commitment to Regional Peace
“Pakistan has always sought peace and stability across the world,” Naqvi said, adding that Islamabad would continue its efforts for lasting peace in the Middle East. The two sides agreed to strengthen institutional collaboration in a range of areas, including security coordination, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and immigration management. The discussions reflected a shared desire to translate improving regional conditions into closer practical cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
