Zelensky Urges Putin to End War, Proposes Face-to-Face Meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, renewing his bid to end the ongoing war. In the letter, Zelensky calls for a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders and urges Putin to make a decision to stop the conflict.

Zelensky's Letter to Putin

According to a news agency, President Zelensky wrote in the letter that there has been enough fighting and it is now up to Putin to decide the next steps. He stated that Ukraine is prepared to agree to a ceasefire during negotiations. However, if Russia is not willing to accept a ceasefire, Ukraine is ready to continue fighting. Zelensky also asserted that Russian forces would not be able to capture the Donetsk region this year.

Kremlin's Response

A Kremlin spokesperson confirmed that Zelensky's letter has not yet been presented to President Putin. The spokesperson added that Zelensky is welcome to come to Moscow and meet with Putin whenever he wishes. This indicates that Russia remains open to dialogue but has not yet formally responded to the proposal.

Current Military Situation

Russia recently took control of 2,440 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, and Russian forces continue to advance in Ukraine. Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Putin said that Russia now has full control of the Luhansk region and could potentially gain control of the broader Donbas area. He warned that Ukraine could lose more territory if the conflict continues.

International Relations

Putin also stated that Russia has consistently cooperated with China in the military sphere and will continue to do so. He added that India-U.S. relations have never been an obstacle to Russia-India ties. Putin reiterated that Russia is prepared to deal with Ukraine through peaceful means, but the situation remains tense.

The letter from Zelensky represents a significant diplomatic effort to end the war, but the response from Russia remains cautious. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether a ceasefire can be achieved or if the conflict will escalate further.
