Punjab CM Approves Traffic Warden Promotions to Grade 17
Maryam Nawaz Approves Traffic Warden Promotion Structure

In a significant move for Punjab's law enforcement personnel, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given her official nod to a comprehensive new promotion structure for traffic wardens. This policy paves the way for their career advancement to the positions of Grade-16 Senior Traffic Wardens (STW) and Grade-17 Traffic Officers (TO).

A New Path for Career Advancement

The approval, confirmed by a Punjab Police spokesperson, establishes a clear and transparent framework for career progression. The new system is built on a dual-track model, integrating both seniority and merit. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, clarified that 50 percent of promotions will be granted based on seniority. The remaining 50 percent will be determined through competitive examinations conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).

Dr. Anwar confirmed that the PPSC examinations for promoting senior traffic wardens and traffic officers will be scheduled in the near future. This formalized process is expected to bring a wave of professional satisfaction and motivation among the ranks of traffic wardens and officers across the province.

Eligibility Criteria for Promotion Exams

The spokesperson outlined specific eligibility requirements for officers wishing to appear in these promotion examinations. For the promotion to Senior Traffic Warden (STW), the upper age limit has been set at 50 years. For the higher post of Traffic Officer (TO), officers up to 52 years of age will be eligible to apply.

Furthermore, candidates must have a clear service record and must have completed all relevant mandatory training courses. On the educational front, a minimum qualification of a Bachelor's degree with at least a second division is required to be eligible for the promotion examination.

Fast-Tracked Approval for Personnel Welfare

This initiative underscores the provincial government's focus on the welfare and career development of its frontline personnel. The summary for this new promotion structure was forwarded by IGP Dr. Usman Anwar with the aim of ensuring fast-track promotions. The Government of Punjab promptly approved the summary, leading to the Chief Minister's final endorsement.

The establishment of this structured promotion ladder marks a pivotal shift, offering traffic wardens a defined and merit-based path for professional growth within the Punjab Police hierarchy.
