SBBA Declares PBF Elections Illegal Amid Court Case

Sindh Basketball Association (SBBA) Secretary Aamir Sharif has formally declared the Pakistan Basketball Federation’s (PBF) scheduled June 30 elections as illegal, pointing to an ongoing court case that he says renders the electoral process invalid. Speaking to media representatives in Karachi, Sharif alleged that the federation is attempting to bypass legal proceedings and push forward with a vote that lacks legitimacy.

Allegations of Fake Associations and Bias

Sharif further accused the PBF of orchestrating the formation of “fake associations” in Karachi and Hyderabad, claiming these groups are part of a broader effort to undermine basketball governance in Sindh province. He stated that proper electoral procedures have not been followed, and accused the federation of displaying bias in its handling of provincial affairs. “The federation is trying to create parallel bodies to manipulate the election outcome,” Sharif said, according to a statement released by the SBBA.

Call for Legal Clarity Before Elections

The SBBA secretary urged the Sindh Olympic Association and the provincial Sports Department to refrain from recognizing any election until the court delivers its verdict. He emphasized that proceeding with the polls while a case is sub judice would set a dangerous precedent for sports governance in the country. “We must respect the judicial process and await the court’s decision before any electoral activity,” Sharif added.

Emergency Meeting Scheduled

In response to the situation, the SBBA has called an emergency meeting of its members on Sunday to announce its future strategy. The meeting is expected to discuss legal options, potential protests, and coordination with other provincial associations to challenge the PBF’s actions. The association has also signaled its willingness to approach the Pakistan Sports Board if necessary.

The PBF has not yet issued an official response to Sharif’s allegations. However, sources within the federation have indicated that they consider the elections valid and are proceeding with preparations as planned. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between the national federation and its provincial units, which have plagued Pakistan basketball for several years.
