Youm-e-Ashur, the tenth day of Muharram-ul-Haram, is being observed across Pakistan with profound solemnity to honor the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (Razi Allah ho Ta’ala Anho) and his devoted companions at Karbala. Mourning processions are being taken out in all major cities and towns, where Ulema and Zakireen highlight the teachings of Imam Hussain (RA) and recount the tragedy of Karbala.
Mourning Processions and Security Arrangements
On Thursday, processions were held nationwide to mark the ninth of Muharram, featuring Taazia and Zuljanah to commemorate the martyrs. Elaborate security arrangements have been implemented to prevent any untoward incidents during Muharram-ul-Haram.
In Punjab, mourning processions including Alam, Taazia, and Zuljanah were taken out in various cities. In Lahore, the main procession started from Pando Street, Islampura, with a three-tier security plan. Anti-smog guns and sprinklers were deployed along the routes to provide relief from intense heat.
In Multan, numerous processions from different areas were taken out under a three-layer security shield. Heavy contingents were deployed on all procession routes. In Bahawalpur, thirty mourning processions and seventy-seven Majalis were held. Commissioner Bahawalpur Division confirmed that Section 144 has been imposed across the division to ensure peaceful conduct of mourning activities.
Sindh and Karachi Processions
In Sindh, multiple ninth Muharram processions were taken out across cities. In Karachi, the main procession started from Nishtar Park. Over six thousand police personnel were deployed, with snipers positioned on buildings along the route. The procession was monitored via CCTV from a Control Room at the Central Police Office.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Peshawar
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, processions were taken out from various Imam Bargahs. In Peshawar, the main procession began at Imambargah Hussainia Hall on Saddar Road. Strict security measures were adopted. Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit service has been suspended for today and tomorrow, and mobile phone services are temporarily suspended near procession routes. Rescue 1122 has set up a Medical Response Unit for emergency assistance.
Quetta and Gilgit-Baltistan Preparations
In Quetta, the main mourning procession comprising Alam, Taazia, and Zuljanah will be taken out from Nichari Imambargah on Alamdar Road tomorrow, culminating in the evening. Law enforcement agencies have finalized foolproof security, including Frontier Corps deployment and aerial surveillance.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, mourning processions were held under strict security. Inspector General of Police Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan directed authorities to ensure comprehensive security measures for peaceful conduct.
Digital Monitoring in Punjab
Punjab has rolled out a digital monitoring plan for Muharram, utilizing CCTV cameras and control rooms to oversee processions and maintain law and order across the province.
