Assistant Commissioner Vehari Anam Akram stated on Wednesday that strict monitoring of Muharram processions is being carried out on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure peace and provide all necessary facilities to mourners. She reviewed arrangements for the 8th Muharram procession, receiving a detailed briefing on security, route management, and administrative measures.
Security Measures and Surveillance
DSP Sadr Circle Vehari Jamshed Akram briefed her on security measures, confirming that police personnel had been deployed at all important points. Sensitive locations were under special surveillance, and strict checking was being conducted at entry and exit points. These measures aim to prevent any untoward incident during the processions.
Cleanliness and Traffic Management
Anam Akram also inspected cold water stalls and cleanliness arrangements under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative. District Traffic Officer Zafar-ul-Qadoos briefed officials regarding traffic management and route planning to ensure smooth movement of processions and minimal disruption to daily life. Rana Khalil Ahmad, Tehsil Head of the Suthra Punjab Agency, was also present during the review.
Administrative Oversight and Directives
The Assistant Commissioner reviewed the attendance of officials and staff and directed all departments to perform their duties efficiently to ensure peaceful and organized Muharram observances. She emphasized the importance of coordination among departments to maintain law and order. According to sources, the Punjab government has allocated significant resources for security and facilities during Muharram, with over 270 billion rupees approved for demands for grants as the government defends its budget.
