Pakistan and Turkiye have pledged to deepen their collaboration in the health sector, with a focus on medical research, training, and healthcare infrastructure development. The commitment was made during a high-level meeting between officials from both countries in Islamabad.
Key Areas of Cooperation
The two nations identified several priority areas for joint efforts, including capacity building for healthcare professionals, exchange of medical expertise, and collaborative research in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. Both sides emphasized the importance of sharing best practices in public health management and disease prevention.
Medical Research and Training
Under the new agreement, Pakistani and Turkish medical institutions will establish joint research programs focusing on infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and maternal and child health. Exchange programs for doctors, nurses, and medical researchers will be expanded to facilitate knowledge transfer and skill development.
Healthcare Infrastructure
Turkiye has expressed willingness to assist Pakistan in upgrading its healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This includes the provision of medical equipment, establishment of telemedicine facilities, and support for the development of specialized healthcare centers.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The health sector cooperation is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Turkiye. Both countries have historically enjoyed close ties, and this initiative is expected to further enhance mutual understanding and collaboration in areas of shared interest.
Officials from both sides expressed optimism about the potential impact of the partnership, noting that it would contribute to improving healthcare outcomes for their populations. The agreement also aligns with global health goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health and well-being.
