China Consul General Stresses Security Partnership with Pakistan

Chinese Consul General in Lahore, Sun Yan, has emphasized China’s stance to establish a “China-Pakistan Security Partnership,” focusing on military-to-military collaboration, counter-terrorism cooperation, and strengthening security measures under shared agreements between Pakistan and China.

He expressed these views during a function celebrating the 75th anniversary of Pak-China diplomatic relations, organized by the Institute of International Relations and Media Research (IIRMR) Chairman Muhamad Mehdi and President Yasir Habib Khan at the chairman’s residence.

CPEC and Agricultural Cooperation

In his speech, Sun Yan stated that both countries have agreed to expedite cooperation on infrastructure development, industrial growth, and connectivity initiatives under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He also highlighted enhanced collaboration on regional and global affairs. China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s agricultural modernization by promoting advanced farming technologies and facilitating greater access for high-quality Pakistani agricultural products to the Chinese market.

“China also welcomed two Pakistani astronauts for specialized training and expressed its anticipation of seeing a Pakistani astronaut become the first foreign national to participate in an early mission aboard the China Space Station,” he added.

Bilateral Collaboration Impact

Highlighting the impact of bilateral cooperation, Sun Yan noted that Pakistan-China collaboration spans numerous sectors, including agriculture, industry, technology, and vocational training. These partnerships have significantly contributed to Punjab’s development by increasing agricultural productivity, creating employment opportunities, and improving livelihoods. As Pakistan’s agricultural heartland and industrial center, Punjab has been a major beneficiary of CPEC’s early harvest projects and is expected to further strengthen the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.

“China reiterated its unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Pakistan to combat terrorism in all its forms, support Pakistan’s growing role in regional and international affairs, pursue shared development objectives, and uphold international law and multilateral principles,” he explained.

Enduring Friendship

Reflecting on the longstanding friendship, Sun Yan stated that over the past 75 years, Pakistan and China have consistently supported one another through challenging and prosperous times, building a bond often described as “higher than the mountains and deeper than the oceans.” This enduring friendship has been strengthened by history and remains vital for the future.

Senator Pervaiz Rasheed welcomed the Chinese Consul General and emphasized that Pakistan-China friendship has remained steadfast and resilient regardless of changing regional or international circumstances. IIRMR Chairman Muhammad Mehdi and President Yasir Habib Khan highlighted the importance of Pak-China trade activities, especially in the context of business-to-business cooperation. Under the strategic vision of both countries’ leadership, they said, Pakistan-China relations have evolved far beyond traditional diplomatic ties, embodying lasting friendship, stable cooperation, and mutually beneficial engagement between nations with different cultures, civilizations, and social systems.

Muhammad Mehdi noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent official visit to China provided additional opportunities for both countries to deepen cooperation and reach new understandings on counter-terrorism, respect for sovereignty, promotion of international law, and collaboration in regional and global affairs. Senior journalist Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, Sohail Warriach, and Salim Bukhari discussed the decline in cotton crop in Punjab and sought Chinese technologies to help revive Pakistan’s crop glory.

The occasion was described as both a milestone in the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China and a new starting point for building an even closer community with a shared future.
