ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Thursday reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to protecting minority rights, emphasizing that consultations with representatives of minority communities play a vital role in shaping legislation and public policies to reflect the views and needs of all citizens.
He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation from the Christian community, which was also attended by Federal Minister for Law, Justice, and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar. The meeting featured a detailed discussion on minority rights, legal reforms, and issues related to the welfare of the Christian community.
Government's Vision for Inclusive Society
Attaullah Tarar stated that the government is committed to promoting interfaith harmony, equal citizenship, and an inclusive society. He highlighted that every Pakistani, without discrimination, should be able to contribute to national development. The minister underscored the importance of dialogue with minority communities to ensure their concerns are adequately addressed.
Christian Community's Appreciation
The Christian community delegation appreciated the government's continued commitment to safeguarding minority rights. They welcomed recent legislation, particularly the Child Marriage Restraint Act, and lauded the government's efforts to protect minority communities through the National Commission for Minority Rights. The delegation discussed various issues faced by minorities and explored ways to ensure that the needs of the Christian community are effectively addressed through relevant laws and policies.
Legal Reforms and Consultative Process
Federal Minister for Law, Justice, and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the importance of the consultative process for promoting comprehensive legal and policy reforms. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan.
The two sides agreed to continue consultations to review the recommendations presented during the meeting and develop an effective mechanism for addressing matters related to Christian personal laws and other community issues.
